What is this thing about puting rice in the burritos? In South America, rice and beans are common in lunch and dinners (mostly in luch, when you talk about Brazil.) But burrito is a snack. And for this brazilian eyes right here, seems reeealy bizarre to eat your lunch wrapped in a flour pancake. For starters, lunch in Brazil is the principal meal course in the day. Normally, everyday meals in brazil are as follows: Breakfast, Coffee and Milk with a french bread (it's like those sourdough breads, but smaller, about the size of a fist.) with butter. Some like toast, some like curd with fruits and other like the "pão de queijo"- P-ah-oon deh keh-ee-joh Is a small pastry made of manioc flour, eggs and cheese. A reeelay nice cup of coffee in the end.
In lunch hour, brazilians eat for good. Rice and beans are always (or almost always) in everyone's plate. Beef steaks, grilled chicken, french fries, fried eggs, sausages (actually they are not sausages, they are raw....we call it lingüiças - Leen-gwee-ssahs). And we eat big time. In dinner, it's a small meal... Actually, is like the breakfast (though, some like to eat a meal just like lunch.)
That's why i am soooo damn bothered by this. It's like to have the lunch in a snack hour. Well, it is said. Die Rice and beans burritos, die.
All right.... No jokes about it.... It's short for Alternative Press Expo. A major comic book (and similar stuff) conference. I got there around 2:00pm and wandered there until 06:30... So, i just got off when i couldn't bear to stand. The place itself was quite interesting (a major warehouse made into a expo hall). there were there lots and lots of frustrated cartoonists (me included) But a lot of exibitors. There you could find the most horrible magazines (xerox of notebooks) to some masterpieces of the sequential art. I personally got Clive Barker's The Great and Secret Show Trade Paperback (the first 6 issues)
Great Stuff.... I already have read the book (i reeeealy dig clive barker's stuff. He's the creator of the hellraiser series, literature only, not movies. Spooky guy though.) I also found out this extremely indie comic called Martin, The Satanic raccoon, which is AWESOME. The writer is completely fucked up. I used to have this comic book back in Brazil, Toscomem (roughly translated to english as RoughMan or RudeMan). This guy does gore stuff just like i did 10 years ago (back in my 20ies).... If you like Gore, blasphemic, weird, etc. things, ya should check this guy out.
And i got also, something more intelligent, also really indie and "mental" as well. It's this N.Y. comic called TooMuch Coffee Man. I got the book called How to Be Happy, which actually i will read as soon as i finish this post here. This i recommend to ya'll just read a couple of strips in his site, most of then are quite funny, in a weird sense. The guy is very subtle in his jokes.... Here's one:
Well, this Really fed my brain today. (i mean yesterday...)
Well, I just wanted to share some of my big sur xperience. It was an amazing experience... I've never seen anything like this before.... The only major cliff i saw in my entire life was this big one in cornwall... But, here you folks have the good stuff... This place was quite inspiring, since it looked like those travel agency ADs (where everything is awesome) Some time far from civilization makes you more into enjoying this kind of stuff, nature scenery, rocks, flowers and so, and makes you stop thinking about problems... I always liked this kind of thing. Also, we went to this Hearst Castle thing. I particularly found this reeeeealy strange. To tell the truth, it was ugly, nothing more. Too much pastiche. This Hearts guy wanted to put all the art styles in the world in one place. So imagine: Egyptian art with Deco and Rubens... His house was more a museum than a ranch (yes, he called it a ranch...) anyway, I shoot some pictures (well, some weird picties...) i'd like to share some with you.
Yeah... This one, it's me and my chap David in a major rock there....I found this wierd seal begging for food... so i couldn't resist....
And this is a MAJOR view there....
well, i think that's all for today, folks....
see ye all around.
So... As said, above shall follow, lil bits of odd stuff...
And, i have said!
